Things Cats Don’t Understand

January 22nd is a pretty important day for our feline friends: it’s Answer Your Cat’s Questions Day! Fluffy is very curious, which is one of the reasons she’s such a fun little pet. (This is also one of the reasons cats get into so much mischief.) If your furry buddy could voice her questions, what do you think she would be most curious about? A Columbia, MD vet lists some things that kitties just don’t understand in this article.

Cats have no concept of boundaries, or the need for privacy. Fluffy isn’t shy about watching you go about your daily tasks, and she has no qualms about following you into the bathroom.

Calorie Counts

Does your kitty inhale her breakfast, only to start another round of theatrics as soon as she spots the bottom of her bowl? Fluffy clearly isn’t worried about her waistline! (Note: chubby cats may be cute, but they face some very serious health risks. Keep your kitty at or near a healthy weight.)

Solar Power

Do you sometimes find your furry friend lounging in a sunbeam? We do know that cats love sleeping in warm, cozy places. However, Fluffy may be a bit confused here. Is your kitty trying to charge her catteries by sunbathing? We may never know.

Dogs are wonderful pets! Of course, they are in many ways the exact opposites of kitties. Fido wags his tail when he’s happy and purrs when he’s mad. He also likes car rides, does what he is told, and refuses to use a litterbox. None of that makes any sense to our feline buddies!

Have you ever plucked your cat off the top of your fridge, or watched her completely miscatculate a jump? Fluffy also has a tendency to get stuck in trees, which doesn’t stop her from gracefully balancing on fences. Either cats don’t understand the laws of gravity, or kitty physics are ruled by completely different laws than ours.

It’s probably safe to say that most of our feline patients would prefer to take a nap rather than come see us. Your kitty doesn’t understand why she has to go on a car ride, and she really doesn’t get the point of those exams. Sorry, Fluffy: it’s for your own good!
