6 Great Ways to Celebrate National Dog Week

National Dog Week starts today, September 15th. This is a great time to show your canine buddy some extra TLC, and get that cute tail wagging! Read on as an Ellicott City, MD vet offers some great suggestions on how to celebrate this special occasion.

Dogs are super cute when they are being playful. We don’t have to tell you that toys are fun for Fido. That happy dance dogs do when they spot a new ball or plaything says it all! Of course, toys also benefit your pet both mentally and physically. Pick up something new for Fido, and spend some time playing with him.

Snacks are definitely pretty high on the list of Fido’s favorite things. Treat your furry pal to something special for his big week. Plain, cooked meat, fish, or turkey, without the skin, bones, or fat, is always a good bet. For extra tail wags, get your pooch a cut of boneless meat, like a strip steak. If you like cooking, you can also try your hand at making some homemade doggy treats. You’ll find some great recipes online! Just stick to pet-safe ingredients.

New Digs

Do you have a yard for your pooch to play in? Give it a pupgrade, and get a doghouse for your canine friend. If Fido already has a doghouse, maybe add on a little deck or rooftop ‘patio’ for him. Your pet would also appreciate a comfy new bed.

Man’s Best Friend loves going to new places, and checking out unfamiliar patches of grass. Take your furry friend on a day trip, and visit a new park or trail. The fresh air and exercise will be good for you both!

We know, Fido would probably knock this one right off the list if he could. However, even if your pooch isn’t overly thrilled about the process of being bathed, he’ll feel better if his fur is soft, clean, and free of mats and tangles.

Quiet Time

All Fido really wants is just to spend time with you. Carve out some quality time with your furry best friend. This is a great time of year to enjoy a relaxing stroll with your canine pal!
