Ways to Celebrate Love Your Pet Day

There’s a special pet holiday around the corner. February 20th is Love Your Pet Day! This is one occasion that we are happy to celebrate. Pets are very special friends and companions. Their unconditional love and loyalty is truly precious, and is definitely something to be cherished! A Columbia, MD vet offers tips on how to make your pet feel loved in this article.

Treats are a great way to brighten up your pet’s day. After all, who doesn’t love a yummy snack? Just be sure to offer only safe, suitable foods. Ask your vet for specific information.

Our furry companions are very playful, and need entertainment to keep them from getting bored and unhappy. Buy or make your four-legged friend some fun new playthings. Then, indulge your pet with a fun play session. This may be just as much fun for you as it is for your furry pal!

Pay lots of attention to your animal companion. Pets can be extremely affectionate to their owners. Belly rubs and ear scritches are among life’s greatest gifts, as far as Fido is concerned. As for Fluffy, she often really enjoys curling up on her humans’ laps. Purrs and tail wags are truly wonderful gifts! Even many smaller pets like being cuddled.

This one mostly applies to dogs. (If you do manage to teach your cat anything, please let us know!) If your canine buddy knows basic doggy obedience commands, like Sit, Stay, and Come, show him some fun tricks, like Shake or Roll Over. Some smaller pets, like Guinea pigs, can also learn simple tricks.

Pets don’t mind sharing our homes, beds, and sofas, but it’s always best for them to have some things of their own. If Fido has squashed his doggy bed, pick up a new one for him to get comfy in. Fluffy also won’t mind a new bed, though she will also be appreciative of cat towers or other kitty furniture. If you have a smaller pet, like a bunny or Guinea pig, consider getting your pint-sized pal a bigger, more comfortable habitat.

Take some cute photos of your furry best friend, and share them on social media. This is a great way to spread the word about this special holiday!
